Make Your Home a “Green” House!
by Craig Weatherby for MotherNature.com

Most household cleaners and paper goods contain chemicals toxic to air, water—and human bodies. According to MotherNature.com green-living expert Debra Lynn Dadd, author of Home Safe Home, "Replacing conventional household products with natural alternatives creates healthier homes and a cleaner environment." Fortunately, there are many safe, effective choices.

Non-Diesel Detergents
Did you know most laundry and dish detergents are made from petroleum? If every American household replaced one 64-oz. bottle of standard liquid detergent with a vegetable-based alternative it would save enough polluting oil to heat 30,000 homes for a full year. So stop pouring oil on your duds and dishes! Instead, choose dish and laundry detergents made from safe, renewable vegetable sources.

Cleaner Cleaners
Common, name-brand cleaners contain toxic chemicals, but out of the thousands in use, less than one in three have been tested for negative health impacts. Natural cleaners, air fresheners, and sprays don't contain the toxic compounds (formaldehyde, nonyl phenol ethoxylate, etc.) in standard products. But studies by poison control centers say that most household cleaner labels are inadequate to warn of the dangers.
