Dressing for the occasion
The key to dressing a wound properly is making a quick assessment of the nature of the injury and using the right products. For example, if your daughter comes home with minor knee abrasions from a rollerblading spill, you'll want to cleanse, disinfect, cover, and kiss. But if your spouse comes in from the workshop with a gaping, six-inch wound from a jigsaw, you should compress with a sterile, absorbent pad, bandage firmly, and get to the emergency room (save the kiss 'til later). Remember that a dressing goes between the wound and the bandage and that bandages don't all come with adhesive strips.
